Terms of use
What this is
The SVQ Index is a quarterly statistical release published by Singleton Valuations. It measures how participants assess the qualitative attributes of privately held lower-middle-market businesses. Using this site means accepting the terms below.
What it is not
The index is not a valuation, an appraisal, a fairness opinion, or an opinion of value, and it does not determine a standard of value in any proceeding. It produces no dollar figure, no multiple and no discount rate.
It reports assessments made by participants, not properties of the businesses themselves. A category score describes how a business was read from a given economic position. It does not establish that the underlying quality is present or absent.
Nothing here is legal, tax, accounting or investment advice, and nothing here creates a professional or advisory relationship. Engaging Singleton Valuations for a valuation is a separate matter under a separate engagement letter.
Citing the index
You may quote and cite published figures, including in professional work, reports and filings, provided the release is identified. Each release carries a suggested citation naming the release identifier, the period and the sample size. Quote figures as published rather than restating them at a different precision, and do not present a figure from one release as current once it has been superseded.
Do not present the index as endorsing a particular transaction, price or party, and do not represent Singleton Valuations as having opined on a business it has not been engaged to value.
Assessments and scores
A score reflects the answers given. It is self-reported, it is not audited, and its accuracy depends on the accuracy and candour of the responses. A score is stamped with the version of the instrument and the version of the algorithm that produced it; scores issued under different versions are not directly comparable.
Assessments taken through the public site sit in a separate pool from client engagement work and do not enter the published index unless a future release states that the population has widened.
Accuracy and availability
Published figures are computed from the release file rather than transcribed, and the figures on this site are checked against that file. Even so, the index is provided as is and without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The site may be unavailable, changed or withdrawn at any time.
A published release is immutable. A correction is issued as a new release that names what it supersedes and why, rather than by editing a release already published.
Ownership
The instrument, the scoring method, the written content and the presentation of this site are the property of Singleton Valuations. Published figures may be cited as set out above. Reproducing the instrument itself, or building a competing index from it, is not permitted without written consent.
Limitation of liability
Decisions about a business — to sell, to buy, to price, to litigate, to settle — are yours. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Singleton Valuations is not liable for any loss arising from reliance on the index, a score, or anything published on this site. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Privacy
How responses are handled is set out separately. Read the privacy policy →
